Aw shucks, and I thought I was going to glimpse into the inner essence of your being. What a let down!

Seriously though, what happened to the mad scientist banner? I really liked that one!

hahahahaha yeah, i have been meaning to update this page… I always thought they were useless (who visits my webpage besides people who know me!), but I read a couple of advice pages on making a blog, and they all suggested filling out at least a short bio of who you are and what is your goal for making the blog, so as to help wandering visitors understand the context in which the site is to be considered… it sounds like good advice.

Would you consider doing submitting your laser harp project to Instructables for the chance at winning a $15,000 Universal VersaLaser laser cutter?

Sharing your project on Instructables.com is a great way to get your projects more widely known on the web, and meet other smart people who love your work. We have over 2 million readers each month, including editors of all the big blogs and magazines, and your project would be a big hit.

I’m looking forward to seeing your how-to up on Instructables! The contest closes on December 16, so post your project soon.
Let me know if you run into any problems or questions in the process, and good luck in the Laser Cutter contest.

    Best,
    Matt

Hey, cool! I sure will. I’ve been taking lots of pictures for this presentation already, so it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch to instructable-ize it!

do you like the band c i b o Matto?

  6. mahto says:

I do! But probably not as much as my name suggests.

My 18 month old was impressed too, but the wife thinks I’m crazy…

  8. I had a wonderful time meeting you at A2MMF!

Everyone who was unaware of A2MMF had a wonderful time and I keep hearing great stories from my family and many friends who attended your booth.

While at my booth, I also got many families to take interest by showing THEM how to record their kids if they play instruments at home by using a basic computer with pre-installed music programs. The entire explanation of how I recorded and overlapped sounds only took 30 seconds and the children and families were amazed. I also encouraged the parents to remain enthusiastic about their children’s joy of recording and performing music on homemade instruments and even took my instruments apart showing them how to build them “on-the-spot.”

I even created a youtube channel if you want to browse around on it.

I will keep up with your own personal website for future news starting this weekend.

Your exhibit was wonderful at A2MMF!
Due you to you I am hoping to construct a laser harp soon for friends birthdays:)
I do look forward to being in touch with you as the next MICH-MAKERFAIRE approaches.

    CHEERS TO YOU!

    Hey Matt,

Any chance the Lazer Harp could make an outing? Arts festival on July 17th. It didn’t work out last year and we were hoping for this time.

You. Are. Awesome. I cannot tell you how dearly helpful I find your article on usbtmc interfacing with Python. I defo owe you one for that!

    • mahto says:

Thanks Preston! Have you made anything with it yet?

      • Preston Galle says:

….10 months later…yes I have. I had an automated test system built with Python on Linux, controlling a handful of instruments over RS-232, including a low-end Tek scope. I wanted to take advantage of the scope’s USB interface but sill stay with on the Python/Linux platform. The pressure to move to USB, instead of staying with the scope’s 19.2 kbaud serial port, came from the large number of full waveform captures the test system had to perform. When it was all said and done, with the switch to USB (and thus your help), the whole system ran 8-10x faster.

…2 months later… awesome!!! Glad to hear it. I’ve been considering making an automated test system using a similar setup. I’ve done a bit of research into building test equipment for circuit production, and am pretty amped about using linux/arduino to make setups cheaply and quickly. Now I just need a good project to apply them towards.
